Please read this before your first class.
These are 小英’s notes for new students — about the room, about the practice, and about the neighbours. Five minutes here makes the first class much easier.
Welcome to Yogi Home
A few things that keep the practice — and the room — good for everyone.
- 1
Phones off or silent during class. We want you to allow yourself an hour that nothing can interrupt.
- 2
Come on an empty stomach — but not a starving one. Something light and easy to digest an hour beforehand is fine.
- 3
Leave your belongings in the place set aside for them. Nothing personal is visible in the room, which is why the room stays clear.
- 4
Change your mind as you come in. Treat the room as a place to be alone with your own body and mind, and help us keep it quiet and uncluttered.
- 5
Wear something comfortable and close-fitting that you can stretch in. Shorts that leave the knees visible are best; in winter, warm leggings. Both you and the teacher need to be able to see the line of the body. Avoid underwired bras — they get in the way of the breath. The studio also sells practice shorts.
- 6
If something is going on with your body — pregnancy, illness, injury, ongoing treatment — tell 小英 before class. Keep watching how your body answers, keep telling her, and let the intensity settle where it suits you. A period or a cold is worth mentioning too.
- 7
Ask about anything that isn’t clear, during class or after it. If something feels wrong while you are practising, stop straight away.
- 8
Classes must be used within the term (2026-09-14–2026-12-03); except in special circumstances they cannot be refunded, postponed or transferred. If you can’t come, cancel using the link in your booking confirmation email — cancel more than 3 hours before class and it doesn’t cost you a class. Not cancelling and not turning up counts as using it.
- 9
Mats and every prop you need are here. For everyone’s sake, wipe your mat down with the tea-tree spray provided when you have finished. Mats and props are also available to buy if you want them at home.
- 10
Put comparison and competition down. Yoga is not competitive. It is not only gymnastics, not only a relaxation technique, not only strength training — it is a discipline of the spirit, and the body becomes stronger, more elastic and healthier as a result. Its purpose is to settle the mind, open the heart, and lift the spirit.
- 11
Accepting where you are today is a kindness to yourself. You may come out of a pose before the teacher calls it. Yoga does not ask you to grit your teeth, and hardship is not the point — quite the opposite. When you are kind to yourself, the body answers beautifully. Rest when you need to, and practise at the level you actually have today.
- 12
No experience and no flexibility are required. Anyone can practise.
- 13
Stay for the whole class. If you need to leave early, tell the teacher beforehand and go before the final relaxation.
- 14
And last: the teacher closes with palms together and the word “Namaste”. It means —
I honour the place in you where the whole universe dwells.
I honour the place in you where love, truth, light and peace dwell.
When you are in that place in you, and I am in that place in me, we are one.
Namaste
You will be asked to confirm the health section once when you book. The full wording is on the FAQ page .
This is a residential lane
The studio is in a quiet residential neighbourhood. Three things we ask, out of respect for the people who live here.
Park on 建華路
Parking is easy on 建華路, opposite 大寶民宿 — leave the car there and walk in. Please don’t leave cars, scooters or bicycles at the studio door or in Lane 83. The lane is narrow, it blocks the residents getting in and out, and it has meant students being called out mid-class to move a vehicle.
Keep voices down
Please speak quietly around the studio. After the evening classes, don’t linger and chat by the garage or the front door — you are very welcome to stay and talk inside instead.
Arrive 10–20 minutes early
The room opens 20 minutes before class. Come 10 to 20 minutes early to change and settle in — but not earlier than that, so we have time to get the room ready.
Finding the studio
No. 6, Lane 83, Jianhua Rd, Guoxing Village, Hualien City
Near the 太昌 triangle market and 大寶 guesthouse
- 1 Coming from central Hualien, take 建國路.
- 2 On your right, turn at the 7-Eleven beside 花蓮一信 — that is 建華路.
- 3 On your left, take the third lane — that is Lane 83.
- 4 Second house on the right is No. 6, Yogi Home.
The lane is small. If it’s your first time, call or message on LINE and we’ll talk you in.
